Travel Guide: Nashville

Hello CFOC readers, old and new!

After a longer-than-expected blog hiatus, I’m back and ready to share a travel guide from my recent trip to Nashville. In this post, I’m recapping some of the best sights, sounds and scenes of the Music City… in my opinion, of course 🙂 Let’s get started:

Restaurants

Hattie B’s Hot ChickenIf you don’t go anywhere else in Nashville, make sure you make it to Hattie B’s. Featured on the Food Network, known for its signature Nashville hot chicken, Hattie B’s is definitely worth the *inevitable* wait.

Merchants: As seen on the TV show Nashville, Merchants is a 3-story restaurant in the heart of all the honky-tonk action! The bottom floor is the most casual dining experience. (The higher up you go, the more upscale it gets, with the top floor being a private dining space.) Though I’ve only dined on the first floor, the food (and bar) is spectacular. I would definitely recommend the Duck Fat Tater Tots, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and enjoy the yummy complementary jalapeño popcorn.

The PharmacyHands down, best burger in town. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. There’s an adorable outdoor patio adorned with string lights, and they even make their own soda pops!

Little DonkeyAfter stumbling upon the up-and-coming foodie scene of Germantown, we decided to give this place a try for dinner. My sparkling margarita (with prosecco) was delicious, and the chicken nachos (smothered in queso blanco) were out of this world. As is with any boutique Mexican spot, the tacos were on the smaller side, but were yummy nonetheless.

Jack’s BBQ: Though Nashville isn’t known as one of the barbeque meccas of the States, it’s filled with some damn good BBQ joints! Many of the locals recommended Edley’s, but we opted for Jack’s instead. With 3 locations, including one on Broadway, this is a definite must-stop.

Bars

The Patterson House: Warning: Be prepared to spend a pretty penny on drinks, knowing it’s totally worth it! This cocktail – the “In-Flight Movie” – was hands down one of the best cocktails I’ve ever consumed. And that’s not even me being dramatic. We also saw Bob Saget chilling in the corner, so that was fun too 😉 #CelebSighting

Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge: Voted the #1 honky-tonk in the world, Tootsie’s is a mandatory stop on your tour of Nashville. This 4-floor bar has live music everywhere you turn, and the service is impeccable considering it’s always packed. And in case you didn’t know, all of the bands performing at honky-tonks play for tips (the bars don’t pay them) so be sure to bring cash!

Legends Corner: Once you leave Tootsie’s, turn right and stumble your way next door. Though I’ve only been twice, both times the music was incredible… so do your ears a favor and take in the tunes of Legends.

Acme Feed & SeedTalk about a unique place! The expansive building houses multi-level dining, a ginormous rooftop bar, and a radio station. Possibly the best part: a full sushi menu for rooftop-goers.

George Jones Museum: Yes, despite the name, I meant to put this under the “Bars” category. We didn’t check out any of the exhibits (under construction). Instead, we trekked up to the top floor for “The George” rooftop bar, overlooking the Cumberland River. Good drinks, better view!

Other Sights to See

Grand Ole Opry HouseEven if you’re not a huge country music fan – Lord knows I’m not – you’ll be blown away by this place. On my first trip to Nashville, we took a backstage tour, which included walking out on the stage where so many incredible musicians have performed. Definitely worth a visit!

Opry Mills Outlet Mall: Here I scored a $450 Kate Spade dress for $100. Need I say more?

Union Station HotelThough we didn’t stay here, we took a gander inside after falling in love with the exterior. As you can see, the interior did not disappoint either!

Antique Archaeology: This was a special stop for my dad, a.k.a. home of the American Pickers antique finds. And you know what? It was pretty damn cool. The neighborhood it’s in, Marathon Village, is also worth a visit! Right down the street are two distilleries: Corsair and Nelson’s Green Brier.

Until next time, Nashville! What are your favorite spots in the Music City? Share your favorites in the comments below 🙂

Finery Boutique

I’m a sucker for exploring new spots in the city, especially in Over-the-Rhine, so when I stumbled across a new storefront on Walnut, I was super excited to check it out.

Enter Finery.

It’s a dress rental boutique, so instead of buying fabulous designer dresses in store, you can rent them for a short period of time.

Sound familiar? Though I love Rent the Runway, I hate that I can’t try on the dresses in person. Yes, they’ve been starting to create showrooms, but only in bigger cities… which means if I order a dress and hate how it fits, I’m just wasting money. (And nobody’s got time for that!)

Finery offers Cincinnati residents access to contemporary designer dresses – like Saylor, Yumi Kim, Likely and Greylin – for a fraction of the cost! Like this red beauty: retails for $215, rents for only $60. Did someone say holiday party?

Most of the dresses at Finery rent for $60 or less, with rental prices ranging from $25 to $100. The standard dress rental period is four days, but you can rent longer for an additional fee. And while you’re able to rent Finery’s dresses on the spot, it’s recommended to reserve your dress in advance… just in case someone else falls in love with it.

And don’t forget the accessories… because no outfit is complete without a little bling! Finery offers some beautiful baubles, like these:

I’ll definitely be back to scope out holiday party options – and you should, too! And be sure to follow Finery on Instagram for their latest inventory. Happy renting! 🙂

Buffalo Wing Festival

Every time I go home is a treat, but my time spent in Buffalo is even better when I’m enjoying the tastes of home. Think Tim Hortons, Mighty Taco, Duff’s and more.

So when my parents suggested going to the National Buffalo Wing Festival, I was all in!

First, we did some walking around the city. For not having lived there for about 5 years now, a lot has changed… so I love a good exploration to catch up on what I’ve missed.

Then off to the main event. We dined on some of the most delicious wings from all across the country, and Buffalonians know wings.

And just when we thought there would only be locals in attendance, look how many people came from out of town!

All together, we tried 10 different flavors: Cajun Dry Rub and Buffalo Medium from Brew Brothers Grille, Goslings Black Rum BBQ and Garlic Parmesan from BrickHouse Tavern & Tap, Carribean Jerk and Asian BBQ from Curly’s, Dr. Pepper BBQ from Duff’s and Honey Sriracha Rub, Maple Bacon and Loaded Baked Potato from Boneheads Wing Bar.

Is your mouth watering yet?

So if you’re ever looking to make a trip to Buffalo (maybe to explore the breathtaking Niagara Falls) you should go to Buffalo Wing Fest… you won’t regret it. But maybe pack some heartburn medicine 😉

Bloggers, Bubbles & Blowouts

If you’re a Parks and Recreation fan like me, you’ll know the meaning of these 3 words: treat. yo. self. And that’s exactly what me and some of the Thread ladies did at Sia Spa.

This past Tuesday, we partnered with the local Kenwood medical spa + salon to put together a fabulous night of pampering: Bloggers, Bubbles and Blowouts. Because who doesn’t love to break up a stressful work week with champagne and a blowout?

As part of the event, Sia Spa offered some amazing deals on their variety of services, including $15 manicures, $25 blowouts, $45 Dermaplane and even some complimentary ones, too! I treated myself to a manicure (definitely buying this color) plus an eyebrow threading (#BrowsOnFleek).

Everyone at Sia was friendly, welcoming and willing to answer any questions we had about their plethora of services. As a girl who doesn’t often treat herself, I will definitely be back for a facial, massage or even a blowout soon!

Cincinnati Fashion Night

Two weeks ago, a few of the Thread ladies and I were treated to a night of fabulous food, fashion and networking. And boy, was it a blast!

Dress: T.J. Maxx/Tommy Hilfiger (similar) || Shoes: Nine West Outlet (almost identical!)

We started out at one of my favorite new-ish places in Covington, Frida 602. Everything about this place was right up my alley: the decor, the food and especially the margs. Even the bathroom was cute! I felt kinda weird taking a picture of it, but who could resist with a design as cute as this?

After our delicious dinner and drinks, we were off to the main event: Cincy Chic‘s annual Fashion Night! As VIPs, we were given swag bags with exclusive offers, seats along the runway and so much more. There was a three-part fashion show, featuring Walton Creek Boutique, GKM Design and Style Room 326.

Even though I didn’t get too many pictures, all three showings were filled with impressive, cutting edge looks that I can’t wait to recreate myself!
