Rocksbox

I’m quickly becoming a subscription box addict: first Birchbox, then Send Me Gluten Free, now Rocksbox. And if you can’t tell from the contents of this blog, I’m also addicted to statement jewelry, which is why Rocksbox is my favorite subscription to date!

For just $19 a month (plus your first month for free using promo code closetfullofcocktailsxoxo), a Rocksbox stylist will handpick three pieces of jewelry for you based on your style quiz and specific requests! Each box is carefully selected, beautifully packaged and comes with a personalized note, fun quote and return shipping label.

“If loving jewelry is a crime, we plead guilty.”

I plead the fifth…

Rocksbox carries some amazing jewelry designers, including Kendra Scott, Loren Hope and House of Harlow 1960. They also collaborate with smaller (but just as amazing!) jewelry brands, like SLATE, Perry Street and Nakamol. In my first box, I received the Loren Hope Chloe Bracelet, SLATE Spiked Pearl Necklace and Kendra Scott Logan Earring in Iridescent Drusy.

Spring Cleaning with Poshmark

It’s really starting to feel like spring here in Cincinnati. Rain, rain, go away… But thanks to this dreary weather, I’ve been motivated to jumpstart my spring cleaning! Though I’ve only tackled my closet so far, you have to start somewhere… right?

My greatest new discovery is Poshmark, a website (and app) that allows you to easily buy and sell your gently-used, “never-going-to-wear-this-again” clothing and accessories! Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of taking clothes to consignment stores — I always get frustrated knowing what I paid for something and receiving very little in return. I’d much rather donate than get a lowball offer.

On the other hand, Poshmark is a much better choice for ridding of my unwanted clothes. I’ve been a bit strapped for cash lately, so PM offers the best of both worlds — downsizing my closet and getting paid for it! After downloading the free app, I simply used the in-app camera to take pictures, write brief descriptions (color, wear, wash instructions, etc.) and price them accordingly. In less than an hour, my Poshmark closet was complete.

Almost immediately, I received my first offer! Buyers can either buy at the price you set, or submit an offer to negotiate with the seller. The buyer pays for shipping and PM sends the seller a pre-paid shipping label via email. Once the buyer receives your item(s), the money is added to your account and voila – you made your first sale! You can redeem your money via bank direct deposit or check.

Shortly after my first sale, I made my first purchase… oops! This may be the only downfall of Poshmark, if you don’t have much self-control like me 🙂 I bought two J. Crew button-downs for less than the price of one! I’d say that’s a good deal. The shirts came in 2-3 days and were in fabulous condition!

There’s also a “bundle” feature, where buyers can request multiple items from a seller and save on shipping. Though I’m still learning more about Poshmark and its features, so far it’s been a very user-friendly and positive experience. If you’re looking to start cleaning out your closet, I highly recommend using Poshmark!

Birthday Weekend

It’s been a while since my last post, but for good reason… it was my birthday this past weekend! February, though the shortest month, has been the busiest. Some people may dread their birthdays, but I’ve learned to embrace them. A year older, a year wiser. Right?

So how did I celebrate the big day? Just as a 23-year-old should: a delicious dinner followed by friends, vintage arcade games and cocktails named after ’80s celebrities.

My boyfriend, Jack, and I enjoyed a meal at The Littlefield in Northside: a hip bourbon bar with a delectable food menu. I got the Shrimp Pobaby Sandwich on gluten-free bread (which was the best bread I’ve ever had) and he got the Chicken Pot Pie. Both were absolutely delicious!

Later that night, we hit up one of my new favorite bars in Over-the-Rhine: 16-Bit Bar + Arcade. With 50+ classic games to choose from and all free to play (as long as you have a drink in hand), this place is non-stop fun. Add in a unique but tasty drink menu, and you’ve got yourself a good night. I had the Cindy Lauper: grape vodka, sour mix, Sprite and grenadine. Last time, I enjoyed the Winnie Cooper: berry vodka, peach schnapps, sour mix, cranberry and Sprite. Same concept, both amazing!

To finish off the night, as many *drunken* nights in OTR do, we stopped at Gomez Salsa: a tiny, walk-up taco window that serves the most amazing street food on the planet. Was that too dramatic? Oh well, with an analogy like that, you know it’s damn delicious.

LBD

I’m always looking for an excuse to dress up, so when my boyfriend invited me to the 125th Anniversary at his family’s race track, Hawthorne Race Course, I could not pass it up. I was waiting for the perfect opportunity to rent a fabulous dress from Rent the Runway, and now was my chance!

After scrolling through my favorites, I decided to order this dress from Opening Ceremony. It was the perfect mix of sexy and sophisticated, and a modern twist on a classic LBD. The best part: it was only $35, even though it retails for over $400! Needless to say, RTR is a dream come true for anyone who has champagne taste on a beer budget.

I paired the dress with one of my favorite statement necklaces, the Natalie from Stella & Dot and my newest S&D piece, the Amelie bracelet. Top it off with some leather heels and I was off to the races (not literally, of course… too muddy!).

Though I may not have had much luck in the gambling department, I received compliments all night long! I will definitely be ordering from RTR again.

Home for the Holidays: Outfits

As promised, I’m sharing a couple of my favorite holiday outfits. I must’ve been pretty nice this year because Santa was good to me! Though I knew almost all of my gifts (oops…) it was because my mom and I scored some serious Black Friday steals. And besides, if you know about your gifts, you won’t have to make as many returns, right?!

Christmas Eve

It didn’t snow at all when I was home! I know what you’re thinking, “Doesn’t she live in Buffalo? Isn’t it always snowing there?” You would think, but not this year… at least not when I was home! Needless to say, I didn’t have to bundle up as much as I normally do around this time of year. I paired my favorite drawstring pants with a comfy sweater, topped it off with some statement earrings and a deep red lip.

Sweater: American Eagle (old – similar) || Pants: GAP (old – similar) || Shoes: Express (old – similar) || Scarf: gift (similar) || Earrings: BaubleBar (similar or similar) || Lipstick: Urban Decay in “Shame”

Christmas Day

This was one of my Black Friday steal outfits. Gap had 50% off everything, so naturally I took advantage! I’m obsessed with my Stella & Dot “Natalie” necklace, so I incorporated it into this outfit for a bit of sparkle.
