Good morning, everyone! Who’s ready for Thanksgiving? I sure am! I can’t wait to be home, relaxing with Cosmo (our family dog) by the fire and enjoying family’s company with some delicious homemade food.
For today’s post, I’m featuring a style that is super flattering on nearly every body type: peplum. Peplum is a short flared or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist to create a hanging frill or flounce. This figure-flattering style is predominantly featured in jackets, dresses and blouses.
If you’re built like me, you know that an hourglass figure is often difficult to flatter with certain types of clothes. After trying to pull off many different styles, I’ve found that peplum tops and high-waisted bottoms are the most flattering for my body type.
I spotted this peplum top at Anthropologie last year and was immediately drawn to it! I’m a sucker for polka dots and anything with ruffles. I knew I would get a lot of wear out of it, so off to the register I went!
Styling Tip: Depending on where you’re wearing your peplum, tone down the other parts of your outfit with more straight or streamlined pieces. For example, the peplum in this outfit adds some fullness on top, so I paired it with some skinny jeans (instead of a fuller bottom, like an A-line skirt).

PS – I’ve split this post into two parts, so be on the lookout for “Peplum: Part Two” next week!
I’m all about being warm and comfortable, especially this time of year. (I may be used to cold weather in Buffalo, but that doesn’t mean I like it!) If you’re looking to be warm and comfortable this season, ponchos (aka “capes”) are the perfect top layer for any fall outfit.
This first one may not be a traditional poncho; it’s more like a long, blanket-style vest. The Starbucks barista tried complimenting me on it but he wasn’t sure what to call it and frankly, neither did I. But for the sake of this post, I’ll call it a poncho 🙂
Whatever you want to call it, it may not have sleeves, but it’s the warmest thing ever! The heavy wool material is super cozy, and surprisingly not itchy. I originally saw this poncho on Out + Outfit and knew I had to have it! I’ve worn it on warmer days with a plain tank top or on colder days with a long-sleeve shirt or sweater. Similar to the blanket scarf, I like to keep the foundation of the outfit simple with ponchos. They are essentially the “star” of the outfit, so let them shine!

I came across this second poncho while aimlessly “window shopping” online. There happened to be a 40% off sale online only, and you know I can’t resist a good sale!
It’s more lightweight than the previous poncho, but still super cozy. I love the fringe at the bottom and the different colored stripes. It’s all about the details!

Happy Monday! After enjoying some 70° days, it’s back to fall-like temperatures. I even heard on the radio that we could be expecting snow by the end of the month! But trust me, I’m not complaining. Colder weather means back to boots and lots of layers, woohoo!
Today, I wanted to show you how to style an accessory that I’ve been dying to wear again since I packed it away last summer: the blanket scarf. This is a trend that blew up last year and is (thankfully!) still trending this year. At first, I was hesitant to purchase one, mostly because of how petite I am. I didn’t want the scarf to overpower my 5’3″ self!
After finding a pattern I loved at American Eagle, I decided to go for it. And, without much hesitation, the salesperson talked me into getting two scarves! (I’m easily persuaded when it comes to buying more clothes.)
Though I don’t have the other scarf with me here in Cincinnati, I’ll definitely be wearing this accessory all season. It’s so warm and comfortable, and I love how versatile it is. My two favorite ways to wear it are (1) tied around my neck and (2) as a shawl, but belted so I still have a waist 🙂
Styling Tip: If you have a patterned scarf like mine, let it be the statement of your outfit! Keep the rest of your clothes simple (I paired mine with a gray long-sleeve shirt and jeans) so you don’t overpower the look! If you’re feeling adventurous and want to mix patterns, go for a more muted pattern with your shirt, like a horizontal stripe or polka dot. Just make sure the two patterns aren’t competing with one another.

Though it’s officially been fall for more than a month, here in Cincinnati, Mother Nature is still deciding whether she wants it to be hot, warm or cold. So what do you wear if it’s too hot for a heavy jacket but too cold for nothing at all? A puffer vest!
It’s no doubt that vests are making a comeback in the fashion world. And it’s a trend that works for both men AND women!
Because most vests run on the pricier end, I waited for the perfect sale and bit the bullet. My philosophy: divide the purchase price by the number of times worn. Investing in more expensive clothes (rather than cheaper, low-quality ones) is more cost-effective in the long run. Trust me, it’s totally worth it!

Hello everyone and welcome to Closet Full of Cocktails!
For my first-ever post, I wanted to share one of my favorite fall trends: flannels! Thanks to Old Navy‘s half-off deal last weekend, I scored three flannels for under $50. Now that’s a steal!
There are several different ways to rock your favorite flannel this season, so I’m featuring three of my favorites: Lots of Layers, Dress It Up and 90’s Throwback.
LOTS OF LAYERS
Perfect for the “cold in the morning, warm in the evening” Cincinnati weather, this layered look is my go-to for the fall. For this look, I threw on a sweater overtop, but a light jacket or vest looks great, too!
Sweater: GAP (old – similar or similar) || Flannel: Old Navy || Necklace: New York & Company (old – similar or similar) || Jeans: American Eagle || Shoes: Express (old – similar or similar)
DRESS IT UP
Flannels are meant for comfort, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress them up for work or a night out! Throw on a skirt and some heels and you’re ready to go!
Flannel: Old Navy || Necklace: Kohl’s (old – similar) || Skirt: J.Crew Factory (old – similar) || Shoes: Target (old – similar)
Paying homage to the 90’s grunge days (yes, I was born in the 90’s… but I remember that style!) but modernized a bit. Simple yet styled, this outfit is great for running errands or just hanging out with friends.
Tank: Anthropologie || Flannel: Old Navy || Jeans: American Eagle || Shoes: American Eagle (old – similar)
Of course, there are many other fabulous ways to show off this seasonal statement. What’s your favorite flannel look? Share your looks with me on Instagram at @ClosetFullOfCocktails!
PS – Shout out to my ever-so-patient boyfriend for taking these pictures, and chasing the sunset with me for the perfect shot! <3
