Trending Now: Pom-Poms

Today, I’m sharing another one of my favorite spring trends: pom-poms, or poms… whatever you want to call them! Poms are a fun and playful trend: perfect for the warmer weather. You’ll find them on hats, shoes, shorts, purses, scarves, jewelry and so much more.

DIY Bridal Shower Gift

Something exciting is happening in just a few months… one of my best friends is getting married! What’s more? I’m going to be a bridesmaid for her big day! With the date quickly approaching, the wedding festivities have officially begun, starting with her groom’s family bridal shower.

Though I’m not the craftiest person in the world, I’d much rather give a personalized gift rather than something off their registry. Don’t get me wrong, registries are great for getting the couple exactly what they want! That’s just my opinion 🙂

After having interned for an wedding and event planner a few summers ago, I had the perfect gift in mind: a wine basket filled with bottles for every momentous occasion the newly-wedded couple will celebrate together. Some of these include the wedding night, honeymoon, first house and first baby.

I found a printable PDF on (appropriately named…) and then I was off to Party Source and Michaels to shop! You can read the full Ultimate Bridesmaid post here.

If you want to create your own bridal shower wine basket, here’s everything you’ll need:

Choose your materials. First, the wine. I purchased seven different bottles from my local liquor store, and had a lot of fun doing it! To add a personal (and humorous) touch, I selected wines based on the brand name and how it relates to the occasion. For example, for the honeymoon tag, I bought Barefoot, since the future Mr. & Mrs. will be barefoot on the beach. For the first baby tag, I bought a bottle of Gallo Family. And for the wedding night, I got Simply Naked Chardonnay. Get it? 😉 Ha! Next, stop by your local craft store and pick out your basket, ribbon, gift bag and paper crinkle.

Print and cut out your gift tags. See the link above to get yours! Then, assign a gift tag to each of your wine bottles.

Time to assemble. Scatter the paper crinkle at the bottom of the basket for a decorative touch. I used a teal color to complement the color of the gift tags.

Arrange. Now, it’s time to arrange the bottles. This can be done however you’d like, but I tried to mix them up by gift tag colors, wine type and bottle size.

Final touches. Once you decide on an arrangement you like, I found that it’s easiest to take the bottles out before putting on the gift bag. Trust me, it gets heavy! After you get your gift bag on, finish it off with a bow and tada – you’ve got yourself a beautiful wine basket.

Spring Cleaning with Poshmark

It’s really starting to feel like spring here in Cincinnati. Rain, rain, go away… But thanks to this dreary weather, I’ve been motivated to jumpstart my spring cleaning! Though I’ve only tackled my closet so far, you have to start somewhere… right?

My greatest new discovery is Poshmark, a website (and app) that allows you to easily buy and sell your gently-used, “never-going-to-wear-this-again” clothing and accessories! Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of taking clothes to consignment stores — I always get frustrated knowing what I paid for something and receiving very little in return. I’d much rather donate than get a lowball offer.

On the other hand, Poshmark is a much better choice for ridding of my unwanted clothes. I’ve been a bit strapped for cash lately, so PM offers the best of both worlds — downsizing my closet and getting paid for it! After downloading the free app, I simply used the in-app camera to take pictures, write brief descriptions (color, wear, wash instructions, etc.) and price them accordingly. In less than an hour, my Poshmark closet was complete.

Almost immediately, I received my first offer! Buyers can either buy at the price you set, or submit an offer to negotiate with the seller. The buyer pays for shipping and PM sends the seller a pre-paid shipping label via email. Once the buyer receives your item(s), the money is added to your account and voila – you made your first sale! You can redeem your money via bank direct deposit or check.

Shortly after my first sale, I made my first purchase… oops! This may be the only downfall of Poshmark, if you don’t have much self-control like me 🙂 I bought two J. Crew button-downs for less than the price of one! I’d say that’s a good deal. The shirts came in 2-3 days and were in fabulous condition!

There’s also a “bundle” feature, where buyers can request multiple items from a seller and save on shipping. Though I’m still learning more about Poshmark and its features, so far it’s been a very user-friendly and positive experience. If you’re looking to start cleaning out your closet, I highly recommend using Poshmark!
