Spring Cleaning with Poshmark

It’s really starting to feel like spring here in Cincinnati. Rain, rain, go away… But thanks to this dreary weather, I’ve been motivated to jumpstart my spring cleaning! Though I’ve only tackled my closet so far, you have to start somewhere… right?

My greatest new discovery is Poshmark, a website (and app) that allows you to easily buy and sell your gently-used, “never-going-to-wear-this-again” clothing and accessories! Honestly, I’ve never been a huge fan of taking clothes to consignment stores — I always get frustrated knowing what I paid for something and receiving very little in return. I’d much rather donate than get a lowball offer.

On the other hand, Poshmark is a much better choice for ridding of my unwanted clothes. I’ve been a bit strapped for cash lately, so PM offers the best of both worlds — downsizing my closet and getting paid for it! After downloading the free app, I simply used the in-app camera to take pictures, write brief descriptions (color, wear, wash instructions, etc.) and price them accordingly. In less than an hour, my Poshmark closet was complete.

Almost immediately, I received my first offer! Buyers can either buy at the price you set, or submit an offer to negotiate with the seller. The buyer pays for shipping and PM sends the seller a pre-paid shipping label via email. Once the buyer receives your item(s), the money is added to your account and voila – you made your first sale! You can redeem your money via bank direct deposit or check.

Shortly after my first sale, I made my first purchase… oops! This may be the only downfall of Poshmark, if you don’t have much self-control like me 🙂 I bought two J. Crew button-downs for less than the price of one! I’d say that’s a good deal. The shirts came in 2-3 days and were in fabulous condition!

There’s also a “bundle” feature, where buyers can request multiple items from a seller and save on shipping. Though I’m still learning more about Poshmark and its features, so far it’s been a very user-friendly and positive experience. If you’re looking to start cleaning out your closet, I highly recommend using Poshmark!

  4. These sandals keep showing up on my Instagram feed, and I’m completely in love.
  5. My Stella & Dot obsession is never-ending, and these earrings are not helping.

Around the Internet

  1. Because everyone needs a cute animal video for those not-so-great days.
  2. If this recipe truly tastes like cake, I’m all in.
  3. No explanation needed. This video series is always hilarious!
  4. An outfit is only as great as its accessories, right?
  5. Truer words have never been spoken.

In the Blogosphere

  1. Fellow Thread Cincinnati blogger Olivia of Baubles to Bubbles is starting a new post series, all about blogging tips. Can’t wait to follow along!

Trending Now: Off-the-Shoulder

One of my goals for this year is to diversify my blog content, so I’m starting another post series: Trending Now. Once again, the title speaks for itself — I’ll be sharing some of my favorite trends for the upcoming season to keep you informed and on trend. So let’s get started with the first of my favorite spring trends: off-the-shoulder everything!

I’ve already invested in a few OTS pieces, including this dress from Mint Julep Boutique and this blouse from LOFT from my first Friday Fab Five.

The reason I love this trend is because it’s flirty without being over-the-top. Remember: Showing a little skin is always sexier than showing too much (in my opinion) 😉

Need some inspiraiton? Here are a few of my favorite bloggers rocking OTS looks:

Friday Fab Five – 03.25.16

Today, I’m excited to introduce a new weekly post series — the Friday Fab Five. I’ll be sharing five of my favorite products, Internet findings and bloggers’ posts from the week every Friday. Appropriately titled, right? 🙂

On My Wish List

  1. I’ve been in the market for a good pair of white jeans for the spring. If what they claim is true, these no-stain white jeans from Old Navy definitely belong in my closet!
  2. Evelyn Henson just released her Spring/Summer prints, and one is cuter than the next. I’ve purchased some of her map prints as gifts and they’ve always been a hit!
  3. In serious need of this Eyelet Off the Shoulder Blouse from LOFT — eyelet and off the shoulder tops are definitely trending this season!
  4. I’ve had my eye on this Peplum Top for a while, and thanks to a birthday gift card, it’s officially mine — woohoo!
  5. If you haven’t checked out Target’s latest collaboration with Who What Wear, it’s a must! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this Midi Shirt Dress may be it.

Around the Internet

  1. In the wake of latest terrorist attacks in Belgium earlier this week, this touching tribute by French cartoonist Plantu went viral. It’s the perfect depiction of coming together in solidarity in the face of senseless violence. Peace and prayers to Belgium and the rest of the world.
  2. On a lighter note, this goldfish got braces, and it’s probably the cutest that anyone (or anything) has ever looked with braces on. (I’m allowed to say that because I had them for four years.)
  3. Because everyone loves John Krasinski and a good Tonight Show game. I mean seriously, look at that smile. #JimAndPamForever
  4. Have you ever LOLed at a text? I did when my boyfriend sent me this.
  5. Many people don’t know this, but I danced competitively for over ten years of my life. This incredibly beautiful choreography and dancing moved me, almost to tears.

In the Blogosphere

  1. I’ll definitely be using Keynote for my Instagram collages from now on, thanks to the great tips from Amanda of The Miller Affect.
  2. I’m a sucker for the Gap Clearance in Kentucky and it looks like Annie from Success on Stilettos is, too! She’s rocking this blue leopard blazer for the perfect business casual look.
  3. What are your go-to closet favorites? Mine are vests, statement necklaces and scarves. Fellow Thread Cincinnati blogger Preeti of Ninesto5 shares hers, and I’m loving them all!
  4. As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m all about spring… flowers and floral prints galore! Kavya of Pretty Pink Roses pairs both into a beautiful, bright outfit! Bonus: she partnered with Megha of Artistry by Megha to bring you another fabulous spring look!
  5. How adorable is this blush outfit from Lauren of LC Steele?! And accessorized with a Cubs baseball hat… love. Lauren, you definitely rock the “cool girl” vibe!

I hope you enjoyed my first installment of the Friday Fab Five. Until next week!

Swap ‘Til You Drop

A few weeks ago, my roommate Alex and I went to a friend’s “girls night in” party — and man, was it fun. Imagine getting rid of accessories you haven’t worn in a while, and replacing them with “new” (to you) ones, for free! That’s the basis of the increasingly-popular Accessory Swap Party.

Accessory Swap Party | Closet Full of Cocktails

Each person was asked to bring at least three gently-used accessories (scarves, earrings, necklaces, etc.) that they were willing to part with from their closet. Each item you brought was exchanged for a raffle ticket, which gave you access to “shop” the table for someone else’s accessories. The ticket numbers were randomly selected, with each person getting to shop at least three different times, depending on how many things they brought.

The best part (besides the photo booth, selfie stick included — see below): everyone got to preview the table for five minutes before the “shopping” began, so you could go into the room with a plan of attack. The suspense and excitement was quite entertaining! You could see that some people were withholding their top picks, in hopes that their neighbors wouldn’t steal it from them. Everyone went home happy and anxious to rock their new accessories.

I went home with a pair of silver drop earrings, two necklaces and a bright pink scarf with pom poms — definitely in season for spring!

A big thank you to Christina for inviting us and Johnnie for hosting this wonderful party! Alex and I will definitely be hosting our own swap soon, so stay tuned.
